Fresh Vegetable Snacks

 photo 401919_10152882362265707_544523627_n_zpsf107c977.jpg

I find these fresh vegetable slices a great alternative from chips and other snacks! I like the cucumber sticks , carrot sticks and tomato wedges with a little salt and pepper. If you want to make a healthy snack like this, try using  delicious dipped in yogurt-green onion dip.  It is made with thick plain yogurt, a touch of reduced-fat mayo, chopped green onions and fresh herbs you can get like dill, oregano and  parsley. Cauliflower florets are also good dipped in this.

Raw broccoli spears are fine too but I prefer them very lightly steamed and chilled. It tastes delicious with a bit of balsamic vinegar, ditto for asparagus, sliced bell peppers, baby carrots or carrot sticks, fresh sweet peas, cauliflower grape tomatoes and cucumber slices. Try dipping them in hummus or fat free ranch dressing.

Craving for Ginamos

Yup I was craving for Ginamos the other day so I bought at the wet market and stir fry it with tomatoes. Ginamos as what we call it in Visayan is actually a salted small fish that has been kept for several days. I love eating it with rice, cooked banana (saging saba) and green mango.

Ginamos or Bagoong is made by salting and fermenting the bonnet mouth fish.  Bagoong is however an essential ingredient in many curries and sauces. It’s unique and distinct odor is also used as a condiment or as a dipping sauce.

Atchara

Who doesn’t love Atchara? of course most of us Pinoys love it because this is probably the most famous appetizer here in the Philippines.

This sweet and sour and tangy tasting appetizer which is made from pickled green papaya is usually served with fried dishes such as pork and chicken barbeque, fried tapa, longganisa, tocino, and even lechon manok. Wanna try some? ^_^
